The story

Felix, Dare to Dream is the fascinating story of an existential journey: that of Felix Leu, founder of one of the most iconic and respected families on the international tattoo scene — a bohemian clan that turned freedom and creativity into a way of living.

Son of the painter Eva Aeppli and assistant to Jean Tinguely, Felix grew up immersed in the Paris art scene of the early Sixties. A free spirit, he embraced the counterculture inspired by the Beat Generation, and in New York he met Loretta, his future wife and companion in a life of travelling without luggage.

Their story crosses the landmarks of those years — from New York to London, from Ibiza to India — and it is Loretta who guides us through its most intimate turns, in dialogue with their four children: Filip, Ama, Aia and Ajja.

At the end of the Seventies Felix discovered tattooing: born as a way to support a life on the road, it soon became one of his favourite forms of expression, and he proved a genuine pioneer of it. But this is not only a film about tattooing: it is the story of the search for an alternative way of living, and of an unbreakable will to stay faithful to one’s dreams.
